An explosion at the U.S. Steel Clairton Coke Works plant that supplies coke to its Northwest Indiana steel mills killed one and injured 10, according to authorities.
The explosion rocked the suburban Pittsburgh coke plant at about 10:51 a.m. Monday, according to the Allegheny County Police. The plant in Pennsylvania has supplied coke to U.S. Steel's mills in Northwest Indiana for the last decade, since the Gary Works coke batteries were shuttered in 2015.
"Allegheny County 9-1-1 was notified of an explosion inside a battery operating area at the U.S. Steel Clairton Coke Works.
