PORTSMOUTH, Va. — The Portsmouth Police Department announced Monday it has achieved nationally advanced accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies.

Accreditation was a goal first set more than 30 years ago, according to the Portsmouth Police Department. Chief Stephen Jenkins made accreditation a top priority, and the department’s accreditation manager, Tonya Hopkins, worked with command staff to align policies and procedures with the standards set by the commission.
