BATH, N.Y. (WETM) — A Hornell man who was found guilty in May for shaking and causing brain damage to an infant in October 2022 was sentenced on Monday to over 30 years in state prison, as stated in a release from the Steuben County District Attorney's Office.

Robert Taft, of Hornell, was sentenced on Monday, Aug 11, to 15 years for one count of assault in the first degree and 18 years for another count of assault in the first degree, to be served consecutively, totaling 33 years in state prison, the release said.

Following the sentence, Taft will serve another 10 years of post-release supervision, the release noted.

Taft was originally charged with two counts of assault in the first degree (class B felony), two counts of reckless assault of a child in the first degree (class D felony),
