JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KY3) -Missouri Gov. Mike Kehoe expressed support for President Donald Trump’s tariffs after they went into effect.
Import taxes, also called tariffs, went into effect on 70 United States trade partners. Economists estimate the average American family will spend $2,400 more per year under these tariffs. The goal of the tariffs is to attract manufacturing operations to the United States, increasing jobs and economic independence.
Trump is using tariffs as a tool to better the United States economy and expects Missouri to benefit in the long run.
“Sometimes it takes a little longer than you expect, but I trust him and the administration to do great things for our country, for our producers in the ag industry and for our manufacturers,” Kehoe said.
