If the sound of a modem connecting was your soundtrack to the ’90s, brace yourself because AOL dial-up is officially ending.

In an announcement via its website, AOL said after over 30 years, it plans to discontinue its dial-up internet service, marking the end of an era for the once-pioneering technology that introduced millions of Americans to the internet.

The company will officially terminate dial-up internet service on Sept. 30, 2025. The discontinuation includes both the service itself and associated software products optimized for dial-up connections.

“AOL routinely evaluates its products and services and has decided to discontinue Dial-up Internet,” the company stated. “This service will no longer be available in AOL plans.”
