CAPE GIRARDEAU COUNTY, Mo. (KFVS) - After 60 days of collecting signatures, a group of seniors advocating for the Cape County senior property tax freeze dropped off a petition to the clerk’s office in Jackson.
The group says their goal is to get the more than 3,000 signatures verified, then get the tax freeze on the ballot in November.
Lighting a fire under everybody’s feet to realize we do have a voice, we can make things happen,“ said organizer Janet Pierce.
“A lot of seniors are going to be real happy with us,” said Phyllis Diebold, another organizer.
“Now that we have the signatures, we will check every signature and they will get a report of those valid signatures,” explained Cape County Clerk Kara Clark Summers. “And as long as they have the required number of signatures (2,041),
