MERCED, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - UC Merced has launched a new club focused on supporting scholar-athletes and the "campus's elevated level of intercollegiate sports."

The news comes amidst the university's entry into the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II competition; the Bobcat Club was created to provide resources to students to pursue their athletic and academic goals.

The club will represent a "network of alumni, families and fans committed to the holistic development of scholar-athletes at UC Merced," according to the university.

Bobcat Club members can allocate their gifts to the Bobcat Excellence Fund or directly contribute to one of the university's 12 athletic programs. Additionally, alumni will have the option to participate in the Locker Legacy program an
