LAS VEGAS (KLAS) -- A man is dead after his car hit a retaining wall at an east Las Vegas valley business parking lot, police said.

It happened on Monday shortly after 8:30 p.m. near Tropicana Avenue and McLeod Drive near Pecos Road.

When officers arrived, they learned that the car had traveled through the parking lot at a "high rate of speed" and crashed into the wall on the south side of the property, Las Vegas Metro police told 8 News Now.

The man was the only person in the car at the time of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
