LAS VEGAS (KLAS) -- A change in President Donald Trump's spending bill could have big consequences for Nevada, as it includes a new tax rule affecting gambling losses.
The provision changes how much bettors can deduct in losses. The revised tax code now lets gamblers deduct just 90% of their losses, against 100% of their winnings.
Leading the opposition is Democratic Congresswoman Dina Titus, who introduced a bill to counter the charge. Titus held a town hall Monday at Las Vegas City Hall.
“It's a very simple change, but has a great deal of impact,” said Titus in her opening remarks, in regard to the provision.
The town hall was filled with key players in the gaming industry. The crowd was 80% professional gamblers, who asked questions to an expert panel.
