SACRAMENTO, Calif. —
South Sacramento marked a major milestone with the opening of César Chávez Elementary, a new school that promises to be the heart and soul of the community.
"It's a big thing not only for the kids, but for the adults and, just for the community that's been here for years," said South Sacramento resident Vanessa Matta.
The new school is located on 29th Street and combines Edward Kemble Elementary and César Chávez Intermediate into one campus.
Chinua Rhodes, Sacramento City Unified School District trustee, said the school features a new STEM lab, soccer fields, library, and basketball courts.
"Now we're bringing all our family together," said Rhodes. "Shows our family members, show the community that we care and we're willing to invest in the south side of the city.
