Oakland leaders, including Mayor Barbara Lee, are sounding off after President Trump called out the city while discussing plans to send the National Guard to address crime in the nation's capital.
The president referenced Oakland as a city where he would consider taking similar actions, and his comments came as OPD recently announced that crime in the city is trending down.
“This is liberation day in D.C. and we’re gonna take our capital back,” Trump said.
The deployment is coming, despite crime stats from the US Attorney's Office showing violent crime in D.C. at a 30-year low.
And Trump also said he could take similar actions in other U.S. cities.
“New York has a problem, and then you have of course, Baltimore and Oakland. We don’t even mention that anymore, they’re so far gone,” the
