D evelopers of a 14.24 acre mixed-use development in South Gilbert will have to wait for a Town Council decision on their request to rezone the land from regional commercial to residential.

In a public hearing Aug. 5, council members discussed the Aura San Tan project, raising the same concerns as staff about losing commercial land in Gilbert as it nears build out, and questioning whether using the land for offices and apartments was the best way to go.

Despite staff recommendations to reject the request, the Planning Commission had recommended Council approve the request.

Council delayed a decision until Oct. 14, giving the developer time to come back with a proposal with more commercial use on the property.
