STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Schools across New York state are working to enact a bell-to-bell ban on cellphones and other internet-enabled personal devices, and that requires schools to implement ways to store such devices during the school day.

In New York City , individual public schools are required to create their own policy that bans personal devices on campus during the school day. That includes at least one method of storing devices, such as lockers, bins, pouches, or other such methods that can limit student access.

To support the implementation of the ban, city and state funding of $25.90 per student is available to schools, with the amount determined by the number of students in grades three to 12.
