So now that the Detroit mayoral primary is over and there are only two candidates left to face off in November, the not-so-subtle question still lingers in the air; how can either of these candidates possibly measure up to Mayor Mike Duggan?

The answer is to stop measuring the candidates against Mike Duggan. Period. Because we as Detroiters need to get accustomed to the fact that Duggan is effectively past tense. He is moving on to other pursuits, namely the pursuit of the governor’s office.

The active words here are ‘moving on.’ So is that really supposed to mean that the clock is now ticking until Detroit slides backwards into the abyss – again – because Duggan decided not to run for another term?
