Hot temperatures are creating humid conditions that will lead to afternoon severe thunderstorms in Michigan Tuesday, Aug. 12, weather forecasters say.

" Scattered showers and storms are expected across northern Michigan again today. A few strong storms will be possible, bringing the primary threats of lightning, strong winds, and brief heavy downpours," the National Weather Service in Gaylord said on X. "After today, rain-free weather is expected through the end of the week."

A band of thunderstorms is moving northeastward across the state. The storms are capable of causing local flooding and damage with 60-mph wind gusts. Hazardous weather outlooks are in place.
