The Canadian Armed Forces will increase their support in Newfoundland and Labrador to combat ongoing wildfires. Premier John Hogan announced that the number of military firefighters will double to 80. Additionally, two water bombers from Ontario are set to arrive to assist in the firefighting efforts.

As of Monday, there are eight active wildfires in the province, with six located in Newfoundland and two in Labrador. The largest fire, which ignited a week ago near Kingston, Newfoundland, has expanded to 52 square kilometers. Another fire that began on Monday, measuring approximately two square kilometers, is burning near St. John’s. This fire has prompted evacuation alerts for parts of Conception Bay South and Paradise.

In New Brunswick, three wildfires are currently out of control. Residents in areas north of Moncton have been advised to prepare for possible evacuations. The situation remains critical as authorities work to manage the fires and ensure public safety.
