A heat wave affecting parts of Canada is expected to ease today, bringing relief to some regions. British Columbia, Ontario, Quebec, and the Atlantic provinces have been experiencing sweltering temperatures, but changes are on the horizon.
In southern British Columbia, a multi-day heat wave is set to conclude. Heat warnings have been in effect for most of Vancouver Island and areas including North Thompson and South Okanagan. Meanwhile, southern Ontario will continue to experience hot weather for a bit longer, with conditions extending north past Lake Huron and Georgian Bay, and east into southern Quebec.
The weather agency forecasts that cooler temperatures will move into these areas this evening. This shift will provide a break from the high temperatures, which have reached around 30 degrees Celsius, with humidex values nearing 40.
In the Maritimes, similar hot conditions are expected to persist until Wednesday. Parts of Newfoundland may see a change in weather by Thursday or Friday.
Environment Canada is advising residents to limit outdoor activities and to be vigilant for signs of heat exhaustion during this period of extreme heat.
