On this day in 1903, the newspaper’s front page alerted readers that a vigorous search was underway for embezzler Mr. Allen of East Boston. The entire Chicago detective force, aided by Inspectors Morrisey and Burke of Boston, was scouring that city. Allen was wanted for the larceny of $110,000 from the Preachers’ Aid Society and $8,000 from the New England Historical Society.
