JACKSON, Mich. (WILX) - The City of Jackson has introduced a new plan to pay for parking infrastructure upgrades.
The new plan follows the City Council’s decision to scrap the previous proposal that would have charged $2 per hour for downtown parking and raised $750,000.
Under the plan, parking fines will increase to $28, according to the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce.
In addition, parking permit fees will rise by 25%, and property owners will be required to pay a one-time fee of $700.
The Chamber says the goal is to generate $600,000, a 20% reduction from the original funding target.
Despite the changes, the plan will continue to offer two hours of free parking in downtown areas for visitors.
