Former NBA star Sebastian Telfair sought a last-minute presidential pardon from Donald Trump before beginning a six-month prison sentence for his involvement in a well-documented healthcare fraud case.
For those unfamiliar with the case, Sebastian Telfair was among 18 former NBA players arrested in October 2021 for defrauding the league’s Health and Welfare Benefit Plan out of roughly $4 million. Glen “Big Baby” Davis, Jamario Moon, Tony Allen and Antoine Wright were among the other former players involved in the scheme.
Telfair was initially sentenced to time served and three years probation. As part of the sentence, the former NBA standout was to perform community service and report to a probation officer.
