A 55-year-old woman was declared dead after lifeguards pulled her from the water at a Brooklyn beach Monday night, police said.
NYPD officials said the woman was unconscious and unresponsive when she was recovered from the ocean at Manhattan Beach near Oriental Boulevard in South Brooklyn around 6:15 p.m. First responders took her to Coney Island Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
The city Office of the Chief Medical Examiner was working to determine exactly how she died, police said. She was not immediately identified.
If her death is determined to be a drowning, the woman would become at least the fourth person to drown at a New York City beach so far this year, according to authorities.
