Seminole County on Tuesday approved a gas tax increase, which will raise the price of regular gas by 5 cents per gallon.
The increase would bring the local gas tax to 12 cents a gallon, which is in line with Volusia County but would outpace Orange County by six cents.
The county said the move is expected to generate nearly $9 million in revenue per year.
According to the county, on average, five cents per gallon would cost $2 a month, and drivers would pay $24 per year.
The additional revenue would be used on transportation costs, which includes funding roads, public transit, bicycles and pedestrian systems.
The tax will be implemented on Jan. 1, 2026.
