HOUSTON — Alex Bregman’s first trip back to Houston as a member of the Boston Red Sox came with plenty of emotions — and one very Texas tradition.

Before the cheers, boos, and big swings at Daikin Park, Bregman made a pit stop for Whataburger. His order? A No. 3 with a large Dr Pepper and no tomato.

The longtime Astros third baseman, who spent his first nine seasons in Houston, returned Monday for the first time since signing with Boston in February. He was honored with a pregame video celebrating his championships, All-Star nods, and unforgettable moments in an Astros uniform.

“Really cool,” Bregman said. “Great moment, just tried to soak it all in. (Red Sox manager Alex Cora) told me to enjoy it, and I really tried to. It was a special moment.”
