GREENSBORO, N.C. (WGHP) — A native to Greensboro, Jim Melvin served the city he loved from 1971 to 1981.
He handled some turbulent times in Greensboro's past and when it comes to the present, he was always there to share his wisdom.
“After we had the civil unrest downtown, the city was really in a state of unrest. He gave me a call and said he understands the pressure I am feeling because he went through something similar in the late 70s," Nancy Vaughan, the current Greensboro mayor, said.
Melvin's name is etched into Greensboro’s history. from the name of the city hall to the statue at First National Bank Field. Vaughan says Melvin has paved the way for greatness.
