Less than a year after opening in Tulsa, SCHEELS has drawn steady crowds to its 250,000-square-foot sporting goods store, which features everything from athletic gear to a Ferris wheel and an aquarium.
Store leader Pete Philippi said the city has been a perfect fit, citing Tulsa’s strong interest in sports and outdoor activities.
Oklahoma City Plans
The company now hopes to open a location in Oklahoma City, pending a vote by the Oklahoma City Council on Tuesday, Aug. 12.
The store would be built on the west side of Lake Hefner Parkway, north of the Kilpatrick Turnpike, and SCHEELS is requesting $8 million in incentives to help fund the project.
