MSNBC host Joe Scarborough

Signed into law during the 4th of July Weekend, President Donald Trump's "big, beautiful bill" has been in effect for well over a month. Trump and his cheerleaders in right-wing media are touting the megabill as great for the U.S. economy, but not everyone on the right has a favorable opinion of it.

During a Tuesday, August 12 broadcast of "Morning Joe," MSNBC's Joe Scarborough — a Never Trump conservative and former GOP congressman — argued that Trump's economic policies, including the megabill, are pushing the U.S. closer to a federal debt crisis while gutting the United States' social safety net."

Scarborough told "Morning Joe" co-host Mika Brzezinski and their colleagues Jonathan Lemire, "You're talking about income redistribution. It's so crazy. Conservatives have always (been) against redistribution. There's been like the most massive redistribution of wealth from the middle class to the richest 0.001 percent over the past decade that we've ever had. And this is just really supersizing it. I mean, you look at the numbers, and they talk about the top 10 percent, but you look and see how much the billionaires, the monopolists, multinational corporations are getting out of this one big, beautiful bill."

The Never Trumper continued, "You have that over there. Over here, you look at how much Medicaid is being cut, how rural hospitals are just going to be driven to their knees — rural health care being destroyed because of this bill. And then, on top of that, you look at the fact that we are hurtling toward a debt crisis that will cripple this country one day unless Washington gets serious about debt soon."

Scarborough lamented that many Republicans preach fiscal conservatism only to push policies that will increase the United States' federal deficit enormously.

"These Republicans, these people who pretend to be conservatives, they pass a bill," Scarborough told Brzezinski and Lemire. "And seriously, the Freedom Caucus? What a joke! They pass a bill that allows the national debt to go up $20 trillion over the next decade.… When I left Congress…. we balanced the budget four years in a row. And since then, Republicans and Democrats alike have just been ripping off future generations. And yet, this was the worst deal yet, and it made billionaires a lot richer."

Scarborough continued, "It made monopolists richer. It made multinational corporations richer. It screwed the working class. It screwed rural hospitals. It screwed the middle class. It's just really, it's remarkable what this one bill has done. And it's the least conservative bill…. I've ever seen in my lifetime."
