A 15-year-old girl and 15-year-old boy will remain in juvenile detention for now as they stand accused of assaulting a former Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) staffer in a case that enflamed President Donald Trump days before he federalized D.C.’s locally run police department.

News4 was in juvenile court on Monday as the teens from Hyattsville, Maryland, appeared for a hearing.

The teen suspects were charged with unarmed carjacking after police say they and others demanded someone’s car in the 1400 block of Swann Street NW, in the U Street area, at about 3 a.m. Aug. 3. Two people who were assaulted were treated on the scene and not hospitalized, police said.
