Will Google ‘s Chrome web browser be getting a new home?

In a surprise move, Perplexity AI made an unsolicited $34.5 billion bid to buy Google’s Chrome, per reports by WSJ and CNBC Tuesday, coming as a legal ruling is pending in an antitrust case the internet giant lost that could force it to divest the browser.

One reason this is surprising: Perplexity has a valuation of $18 billion. According to Perplexity, several investors including large venture-capital funds have “agreed to back the transaction in full,” per the Journal.
