COLUMBUS — The American Civil Liberties Union of Ohio on Tuesday sued in the Ohio Supreme Court to force Seneca County Sheriff Fredrick W. Stevens to release public records related to its partnership with federal immigration authorities.

It is seeking contracts, communications, and other records related to the Seneca County Jail’s role as an immigration detention facility with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement and U.S. Marshals since June 1, 2024.

According to the suit, the sheriff’s office contends these are federal records that are not subject to state public records law. The ACLU was told to submit its request to ICE.
