GEORGETOWN, S.C. (WBTW) -- The Georgetown Police Department said Monday it will begin "strict enforcement" of the city's curfew and weapons laws because of recent violence.
Police cited "recent shootings and the increase in juvenile gun charges" for the decision to step up enforcement of the city’s comprehensive "Safe Streets Ordinance." The law establishes a juvenile curfew from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday through Thursday and from midnight to 6 a.m. on Fridays, Saturdays and holidays, but allows exceptions for traveling to and from work or other authorized activities.
Penalties include a $100 fine for the first violation, followed by $250 and $500 fines for second and third violations. Criminal charges are also possible, but parents can avoid sanctions by "participating in approved parent
