NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. —

Authorities are investigating the death of an inmate at the Sheriff Al Cannon Detention Center in North Charleston, South Carolina, according to the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies were called to the Detention Center for an unresponsive inmate after 3 p.m. on Monday.

The inmate was pronounced dead at the detention center, deputies say.

The Charleston County Coroner’s Office has not released the name of the inmate.

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) is working to investigate the death.
