Two men who died in a suspected toxic gas accident on a Mobile sewer project have been identified as Garrett Robertson, 31, and Herber Rivas, 50, of Mississippi.
The accident happened Aug. 11 around 8:23 a.m. in a wooded area near the Princeton Woods neighborhood, according to Mobile police. Robertson was working inside a manhole when he was “overcome” by what authorities suspect were toxic vapors. Rivas entered to help and was also overcome. A third worker, who was not identified, went in, became disoriented, and managed to escape. He was taken to a hospital, where he continues to recover.
