Mobile city councilors heard new details Tuesday about the deaths of two workers in a Princeton Woods sewer bypass Monday, and commended the Mobile Fire-Rescue Department (MFRD) for saving a third man during the deadly incident.

Around 8 a.m. Monday, a contractor working on a Mobile Area Water and Sewer System (MAWSS) project in the West Mobile neighborhood entered a manhole and did not return. A second worker followed after him to help, but also did not resurface. A third worker entered the manhole but climbed out on his own. That person received treatment at the scene and was transported to a local hospital.
