A Tulsa-based law firm has withdrawn as general counsel to the Oklahoma State Board of Education amid ongoing conflicts between recent gubernatorial appointees to the board and the chairman of the board, State Superintendent Ryan Walters.

Chad Kutmas of Norman Wohlgemuth Attorneys at Law has repeatedly sided with Walters in a constant tug-of-war for input into the agenda of Walters-controlled public education meetings since Gov. Kevin Stitt replaced four of the six appointed board members beginning in February.

Norman Wohlgemuth is the third outside law firm to serve as counsel to the state board since Walters took office in January 2023. It will apparently continue to represent the board in numerous ongoing cases of litigation involving the bo
