LANCASTER COUNTY, S.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — In 2023, a Lancaster woman filed a lawsuit against the city of Lancaster and its police department over claims that a former police officer racially profiled her, which led to her arrest in August 2020.
On June 27, the woman, Anaysheon Coffey, settled her case for $120,000, according to her attorney, Tyler Bailey.
"We are pleased that the city of Lancaster has resolved Ms. Coffey's civil suit. This resolution sends a powerful message that racial profiling and harassment won't be tolerated," said Bailey. "We are hopeful that city and police officials will take note of this settlement and will implement the necessary operational and personnel changes to ensure this doesn't happen to another citizen."
