A 14-year-old girl has died and another teen, her older sister, remains hospitalized Tuesday evening after both were seriously injured in a personal watercraft crash in the Intracoastal Waterway in Fort Lauderdale , officials said.

The sisters were visiting from New York and their family had rented the watercraft prior to the crash, sources told CBS News Miami.

The girls were riding a PWC when they struck a dock

The crash was reported just after 3:30 p.m. near the 2800 block of Northeast 24th Court, according to fire rescue officials.

Authorities said the girls were riding in tandem on one watercraft when it struck a dock. Both were transported to Broward Health Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.
