MITCHELL COUNTY, N.C. (FOX Carolina) - Mitchell County officials announced that legal action is being taken against a mining company that is illegally operating in western North Carolina.

On Aug. 8, the North Carolina Department of Labor declared the operation of Horizon 30, LLC. in Poplar illegal and reported it to the Department of Environmental Quality:

The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality went to court Monday for a preliminary injunction to stop Horizon 30, LLC. from mining without a permit.

The county reported that at the hearing, the judge stated that he would grant a preliminary injunction to prohibit all mining operations until a permit was granted.
