NEWPORT Ore. (KPTV) - The 11,000-pound lantern was lifted to the top of the Yaquina Bay Lighthouse on Tuesday, as part of the ongoing restoration project of the historic building.
The lantern - which was restored in Alabama by nationally-renowned restoration company Allen Architectural Metals - was supposed to be lifted Monday, before being postponed due to high winds.
The lifting of the lantern marks the near conclusion of a $1.8 million restoration project that began earlier this year.
“In the next couple of weeks, we will finish up the remaining carpentry work on the exterior, touch up small areas with paint and remove the scaffolding. We’re excited to reopen the historic structure to visitors,” said Brian McBeth, historic architecture project manager for Oregon Parks and Recreatio
