SCARBOROUGH, Maine —

Drone footage shows a great white shark that was spotted near Maine beaches over the past two days, according to the Scarborough Police Department.

Police said that on Monday, Scarborough Marine Resource Officer Daryen Granata received a report of what appeared to be a large shark near Richmond Island and Scarborough Beach.

Follow-up observations were conducted and Granata obtained drone video that showed a great white shark estimated to be 10 to 12 feet in length.

The footage, which was captured at about 10 a.m. Monday by David Lancaster, shows the shark was swimming off the southern end of Richmond Island in the vicinity of Higgins Beach and Scarborough Beach.
