PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Governor Dan McKee, Speaker of the House Joe Shekarchi, Senate President Valarie Lawson, and other members of the House and Senate gathered at the Rochambeau Library on Tuesday for the ceremonial signing of the Freedom to Read Act .
The legislation, which was officially signed into law by Gov. McKee on July 2, prohibits the censorship of library materials in public and school libraries and protects the libraries from civil and criminal liability, according to McKee’s office.
