HOPKINTON, R.I. (WLNE) — The Hopkinton Police Department said a man sustained multiple injuries after a 1,500 pound concrete slab fell on him in Ashaway on Aug. 11 .
Police officers and firefighters responded to Maxson Hill Road just after 5 p.m. for reports of a person trapped under a slab of concrete.
According to Hopkinton police, a worker delivering concrete slabs for a septic system had cut a strap holding the slab in place on the truck, which had not been properly secured, causing the 1,500 pound slab to fall on him.
His coworkers were able to use an excavator on scene to lift the concrete slab off the man.
Police said the victim was “conscious and alert,” and airlifted to Rhode Island Hospital.
