EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The Rhode Island Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals said members are taking cats into custody after a transport van holding 14 cats got into a crash on Wednesday.

According to RISPCA, a transport van that came from the south was traveling on Warren Avenue in East Providence when it got into a motor vehicle crash.

When RISPCA arrived, it discovered the van was holding 14 cats, and that four cats had escaped.

The four cats were later found.

RISPCA said all 14 cats have health certificates.

The cats will be placed in RISPCA shelters Tuesday night, and the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals will take in the cats on Aug. 13.
