East Providence Police warning residents of phone scam

EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The East Providence Police Department said it is warning residents of a phone scam.

Police said the scammer will pretend to be an East Providence Police officer and ask for payment for fake claims of traffic or court fines.

The department said it will never accept payments of fines over the phone, and that people should use caution in “any instance where your credit card or personal information is requested over the phone.”
