The Missouri State Board of Education voted to close 12 of its Missouri Schools for the Severely Disabled over the next two years, including the one in Joplin. It will close at the end of the 2025-26 school year.

The recommendation was made by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education during the Aug. 12 board meeting. DESE leaders presented possible solutions to the board in May to improve services at the schools. ×
