MANCHESTER, N.H. —

Sen. Jeanne Shaheen is highlighting the impact of federal funding for the Mount Washington Observatory.

On Tuesday, Shaheen helped start up a new snowcat purchased to help traverse the Mount Washington Auto Road during the winter.

Last year, she secured over $1.5 million for the observatory to upgrade equipment.

"Mount Washington is a wonderful asset for the state of New Hampshire, and we need to continue to invest in it," Shaheen said. "It provides information not just for us in New Hampshire, but the weather data is critical to the rest of the country, to the National Weather Service."

The funding also paid for new weather instruments on the summit and at other locations around
