NEWINGTON, Conn. — As the heat continues to scorch Connecticut , the impact is being felt far beyond rising electricity bills and beach crowds.
State transportation officials are keeping an eye on the roads and railways as extreme temperatures take a toll on critical infrastructure.
From buckling pavement to warped train tracks, the summer heatwave is putting Connecticut’s transportation systems to the test.
"Temperatures in the 90s are not new to New England,” said Garrett Eucalitto, commissioner of the Connecticut Department of Transportation. “It’s extended periods of extreme heat that can have a significant impact on our infrastructure.”
