BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- When authorities stopped Garry Leon Tindall at an Ohio airport, they searched his luggage and made an unusual find: multiple shoes with cash totaling $60,000 stuffed in the insoles.
It's suspected Tindall, a Bakersfield gang member, obtained the money by distributing cocaine and fentanyl in Columbus.
Arrested on July 31, he has a hearing in federal court Friday to determine whether he'll remain in custody.
Court documents filed by a special agent with the Drug Enforcement Administration said authorities were tipped off that Tindall and an associate whose name was redacted were operating out of an apartment in Columbus.
Investigators began conducting surveillance and tracked Tindall's phone.
On July 28, the phone was traced to the area of John Glenn Intern
