Tuesday’s showers in Hamilton may have quickly erased memories of how hot this week has been, but it didn’t stop the city’s fire chief from taking action.
Chief David Cunliffe issued an immediate and total ban on all open-air fires for the city of Hamilton on Tuesday, following a prolonged period of extremely hot and dry weather.
The ban includes prohibitions on outdoor, recreational wood-burning appliances such as pits, fireplaces and campfires, and suspends all permits for open-air burning until further notice.
It also encompasses a ban on the burning of clean wood and brush, as well as undertaking controlled grass burns.
Exempt from this list are barbecues and other gas-fired appliances, but extreme caution has been advised while using them.
