A bitter battle is brewing over the budget of the Lake County property appraiser and an ask for a nearly 30 percent increase that the county commission has vowed to ask the state to deny.
WESH 2 sat down with Lake County Property Appraiser Mark Jordan to discuss why he maintains the increase is needed, and to get his thoughts on the county's stance that he should come before the commission to present it.
Last week, the commission voted unanimously to send a letter to the Florida Department of Revenue, the agency that approves Jordan's budget, asking for it to be denied.
They also said that, if the initial request is overruled, they would be appealing to the Florida Cabinet.
Concerns have been expressed among commissioners about the size of the more than $1 million increase.
