WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) - In the latest action for the long-embattled WaterWalk development, the Wichita City Council has blocked plans for a five-story affordable housing project within the master-planned area in downtown.

In a 6-1 vote on Tuesday, the city denied a request to update its development agreement for WaterWalk, which would have allowed the developer, Indiana-based The Annex Group, to apply for state housing credits and build the $50 million project with 186 units. Council member Brandon Johnson voted against denying the project.
